What is it?
A Blog can be a lot of different things. Ranging from
political stances, personal opinions and just plain rants, people talk about
everything on a blog. At its base, a blog is basically something that people
use to talk about what’s going on in this crazy world of ours. Some people blog
to inform, while others blog to complain; there’s no real wrong way to do it.
There
was a girl in the high school that I went to that would blog every day. She
never had anything thought provoking or extremely political to talk about, but
she did like to talk about the delicious foods she cooked up and strange one’s
she had eaten in her 16 years of living. If you visit http://www.101cookbooks.com/
you can find a much more professional blog about delicious food that’s kept up
by a woman named Heidi Swanson. Heidi has accumulated a vast array of different
amazing recipes that anyone from any race or religion could find something that
makes their mouth water. You can scroll through the immense assortment of
recipes or you can actually search for specific ingredients, or recipes for any
given season. Heidi has taken all of her best dishes and taken pictures of them
because apparently she’s a solid photographer as well as an amazing chef. This
allows her viewers to look at the finished product before embarking on the
journey that is crafting these delectable concoctions. My mom frequents this
website and she’s not a big user of the internet.
Some
people blog about tasty food, others blog about music and some even blog about
the quirky inner workings of the English language, take Mark Forsyth for
example. If you’ve ever heard of his blog “The Inky Fool” you’d know that it’s
far from foolish. Mark examines the inner workings of the English language and
even delves into explanations of words or phrases you’ve used every day, but
never actually known the true meaning behind. Take his explanation of the
Twelve Days of Christmas for example. If you follow this link http://blog.inkyfool.com/2010/12/five-gold-rings.html
you will find something pretty interesting about a song you’ve most likely sang
many times in your life around Christmas time.
Blogs
can basically be about whatever you want, one of the blogs that I actually view
from time to time is: http://www.wwtdd.com/
it stands for “What Would Tyler Durden Do” and if you’ve ever seen Fight Club,
you would know that Tyler Durden is the name of the main character. On this
blog, the writer brings to light the ridiculous things that celebrities are up
and makes fun of them relentlessly. Here’s an excerpt of him talking about Tax
Day just so you can get a glimpse of the writer’s ridiculous style, “At some
point we’ll probably have to reckon our incalculable debt. Or not. Every time
somebody says we can’t leave that immense burden to our kids and grandkids, I
think to myself, why the fuck not? We gave them a world where they don’t have
to buy the shitty songs on albums and you can instantly access millions of
pornographic films right to your fapping hand. Time to pay it forward, you
spoiled shits. America, fuck yeah!” The writer, who I believe remains
anonymous, is witty, rude and downright hilarious. His input on a lot of
serious subject matter is priceless and sometimes very poignant. Personally,
I’m not into celebrity news or gossip, but when this dude talks about Lidnsey
Lohan, it’s always ridiculously funny.
Those
are just some example of blogs, but basically a blog can be about anything you
want it to be. From politics to cookbooks, blogs let people talk to the masses
about subjects that they find important-even if they really aren’t.
