Where and How Do People Start Blogs?

Where do you start?

There’s a myriad of different ways to go about starting a blog. There are many sites that have blank templates that one can utilize to start a basic blog, and others that give you more freedom. With a quick Google search of, “how to create a blog” one immediately finds dozens of sites to use and many others that offer direction to the fledgling blogger. There are some sites like Web.com that you have to pay for to use their blogging platform, but with over 1900 different templates you would be able to customize a blog that really embodied who you are. Unless you have money lying around are hardcore ready to start a serious blog, I wouldn’t recommend a site like Web.com because there are tons of free options.
One of the easiest ways to start a blog is through google. If you have an Android phone you were required to start a Google account, and with that you’ve completed the first step to starting a blog! After logging into your Google account, you are given several options. You can start by creating a blog, or by adding blogs that you would like to follow. When you opt to create your own blog you are prompted to give it a title, name the web extension (mine is jvvfontana.blogspot.com) and you can choose a generic template. If you are so inclined, you can edit the template to be something more catered to your taste. With full control over the picture in the background, font type and sizes as well as borders around your work, Google Blogger really gives you a lot of options to customize your blog to really make it your own.
Another option in creating a free and easy to make blog is to go through tumblr.com. At the bottom of their webpage you it states that there are currently 182.9 million blogs, 83.1 blog posts and it only takes 30 seconds to join. Tumblr has been around for a while and is an extremely easy way host your own blog as well as look into all the other blogs the site has to offer.
A more advanced option that allows you to grow as a blogger would be wordpress.com. Wordpress gives you many free options to create your own website but also allows room for growth. For as low as 18 dollars a year one is able to change the blog address. Free Wordpress blogs always end with .wordpress.com, but if you opt to pay the 18 dollars a year, you can have your domain end in .com, .org, or .net if you are so inclined. Also, as a free user you are only allowed to store 3 gigabytes of space to your blog, but as a premium member you can store as much as 13 gigabytes and as a business user you get unlimited space. As far as free platforms for blogging go, Wordpress gives you the most options to expand if you ever choose to get more serious with your blogging.
There are many options, but ultimately it is up to the blogger to find their preferred blogging site. With as many options as there are out there, it’s almost hard to go wrong when picking a site to host your work or opinions. Some blog because they want people to hear their opinions, others blog to inform, but any way you blog, you’re going to need a website to host you’re stuff. Plus, If your blog gets popular enough you can even find ways to advertise on them and make some cash; the possibilities are endless.
