Well what is it?
A vlog is just like blog, but with video! Vlogs are where
anyone who has an opinion can get on the internet and complain, rant or inform
the masses about matters that they deem relevant. One hilarious vlog that I
find myself watching occasionally is that of Jenna Marbles. If you follow this
link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wRXa971Xw0
you can watch one of her absurd videos. Jenna Marbles is a comedic woman who
both complains and enlightens people in silly ways. She pokes fun at the way
both men and women perceive the world. She shows ladies how to make themselves
look like one of those bronze beauties on Jersey Shore and she even dresses up
like a white trash dude and conveys how they act sometimes. She’s pretty
hilarious and signs off every episode with, “Say goodbye Spiderman” which
sounds absurd but it gets you thinking and eventually you end up Googling why
she says that and all of a sudden you’re on one of her other videos where she
explains the origins.
That’s
an example of a vlog for the sake of comedy, but another example of an equally
hilarious but much more informative vlog is that of Phillip DeFranco’s vlog.
The dude is hilarious, but he also talks about real problems that are going on
in the world. Interlaced with comedy, but he always has a pressing issue that
is extremely thought provoking. He comes out with new material constantly,
here’s an example of his most recent vlog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuKrWrGYyrs&list=PLHcsGizlfLMWpSg7i0b9wnUyEZWI-25N3
People
don’t just use vlogs for information though, many bands use it to spread their
name and promote themselves. A very fun band by the name of Walk Off the Earth
posts really cool videos of them jamming, their upcoming work and the making of
some of their songs. You get a really good feel for the personality of each
individual member of the band, from the gorgeous blonde playing ukulele to the
bearded dude who doesn’t ever do much except smoke an old fashioned pipe; it’s
hard not to become interested in the band. They do a solid cover of From Me To
You by The Beetle’s, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4LhCv7RY4E
at the end of a lot of their videos they have little segments of the band
members just hanging out and it makes you feel much more connected with the
band because you can see that they’re all just a fun loving group of people. So
whether people are talking about politics, expressing their own musical works
or even just complaining, vlogs can be about anything the recording person sets
their minds to.
